Thanks for the loving!

Before I started this blog I did several weeks of research as to the best tools to use, best place for hosting, how to monetize to offset costs, etc. Being a realist by nature, I set some aggressive yet realistic goals for my blog.

Now, thanks to some internet love and outstanding readers such as yourself , I have surpassed all of my 60 day goals on the 10th day anniversary of this blog. I am completely amazed at the fast growth of this blog and deeply appreciate those of you that read my blog.

Here are the goals I set for the 60 day mark:

Unique visitors per day: 500

Pageviews per day: 1,000

RSS Subscribers: 50

Affiliate / ad revenue per day: $2.00

Those were pretty modest but aggressive goals based on what I’ve read regarding the experiences of others. I know the affiliate / ad revenue looks low, but I decided upfront that I didn’t want to pack my page with ads and that I would only refer people to money or time saving products that I personally use. As such, I have a few ads to the right and have only recommended one service that I use. Since that service (My Points) is free, their referral revenue is obviously low.

My stats are also off a little as I just turned on the Google analytics code the evening of 10/02/07, so I’m missing those two days.

So, without further adieu, here are my site totals for the first 10 days of my blog’s life:

As of 10/09/07

Unique visitors per day: 2,483 (broke the 500 goal on 10/03/07)

Pageviews per day: 2,991 (broke the 1,000 goal on 10/04/07)

RSS Subscribers: 54 (broke the 50 goal on 10/08/07)

Affiliate / ad revenue per day: $3.86 (broke the $2 goal on 10/05/07)

A quick analysis of the numbers tells me I have some work to do in the area of promoting other content on my site and building more content on my site. The pageviews stat is very close to the absolute unique visitors stat, which means people come to my blog for a particular page and are not drawn to very many other pages.

In a future post, I’ll detail out my costs for this blog, earnings and earning sources, and my allocation of any profits. I like knowing where my money goes when I give it to someone, and although you’re not “giving” me money I’d like to let you know what I do with it.

Thanks again for visiting my blog!

Yes that is a high number of uniques, but this is a new blog so nearly all traffic would be uniques I would guess.

The trick now is to monetise that traffic better

It could very well be BS, but if so, it’s not my BS.
All I’m doing is going to Adwords, clicking on the Analytics tab, then visitors, then visitor trending, then absolute unique visitors.
Then I changed the date range for 10/01/07 - 10/09/07 and it shows a total of 10,628. For each day it shows:
    10/1 - 1
    10/2 - 0
    10/3 - 636
    10/4 - 1,283
    10/5 - 1,608
    10/6 - 1,360
    10/7 - 1,838
    10/8 - 2,205
    10/9 - 2,483

If I’m doing it wrong, please tell me. I can’t explain the traffic patterns or why it spiked so quickly. If you can, please let me know as I’d love to host your ebook if it’s the definitive guide to internet traffic….;)

Now it’s my turn to call BS. Johnchow and Problogger have north of 5,000 RSS subscribers. You’re trying to tell me that my record of 2,483 uniques is higher than their site? If so, I’m about $10k short in my affiliate income.

Great stats. I think you’ve got great content. It’s interesting and it’s not boring at all. I think if you keep that up, you’ll do great. I blog for fun and need to work on writing better content but I have limited time since I homeschool our two daughters.

My wife homeschools our 3 kids as well. I think if I even mentioned her doing a blog they would later find my lifeless body with my mouth still forming the syllable “og”….
