The best options for a low cost PC and software

NOTE: This post is also being posted as a static page at http://surfindad.com/pc

Initially, this page started as a single source to download the software I recommend and use. The convenience of going to a single page when working on friend’s PC’s, or referring them to a single page, proves to be invaluable.

Over time, this page has grown into a one stop shop for putting together a top notch PC for less than $400, complete with anti-virus, online backup, and office software.

All of the below products (except Zonbu) I either currently use or have used in the past:

Money for nothing and your chicken for free

Posted on October 4th, 2007 in Frugality by surfindad

Food! I’ve always been a sucker for getting “something for nothing” and always relish finding a good deal or a great buy. The internet has obviously made that a lot easier and has created entire new businesses and industries. I know, that’s the biggest “duh” statement ever, but bear with me.

One of the most revolutionary changes is the way companies market to consumers using the internet. Advertisers quickly found the internet to be a very cost effective method of advertising and the early adopters found out that email was almost as effective as postal mail for virtually no cost.

Obviously, that got out of hand and resulted in the coining of a new term that we’ve all come to hate: SPAM. SPAM is, was, and forever will be bad, but some visionaries realized that although it was abused, email advertising, when used properly, is still a very cost effective medium.

They also figured out that people don’t mind opening junk mail if they could do it on their terms AND get paid for it.
